Artist's Comments

At nshc-studio.net, I've been asked by a few people how I manage to paint in hair/manes/tails.
There seems to be an attitude among many photomanipulators that digital painting is harder than, say, taking an hour to extract every single stray hair from a background. In reality, sometimes it's just easier to paint in manes and tails, and sometimes an image is perfect but for lacking hair.

While this is a very, very quick tutorial (with not the greatest results), it does show you the basic principles involved in digitally painting in hair.

** Gah. I really should update the thumbnail to spell "tails" correctly!
